Two comments made to me yesterday--December 16th, 8 days before Christmas-- by husbando and 18 year old daughter--shopper extraordinaire.
Husbando (who went to HD to purchase gift certificates): There was no one in Home Depot
Daughter (who has been to every mall in our area): Everwhere we have gone, we've had no trouble parking.
Strikes me as a perplexion in the making. Perhaps there will a blowout for on-line shopping concerns.

I know that I hate the crowds, which keeps me out of stores. Also, I live in New York City and (don't laugh) worry about terrorism. So if I didn't like crowds before, now I even have a reason to be wary.
Crowded stores aside, more and more people are getting comfortable shopping on-line. Year after year the numbers rise, so it might well be that lots of people are furiously shopping -- from the comfort of their own homes.
Finally, I read a headline (didn't bother to read the article) that noted that more people are giving gift cards.
Count me in!!
I always give gift cards. I'm not clever enough to read people's minds and I'm too curmudgeonly to welcome people's "lists".
Now here's something clever. My daughter said that Food Lion (grocery store) was selling HD, Sears, etc gift cards. Now isn't that smart? No separate trips. My son's school sold these gift cards for school fund raiser one year. (I thought that clever too and I bought a bunch!). They would get varying degrees of commission. I'm sure that FL is getting a commission too. But I bet the participating stores are enjoying a bonanza of a distribution outlet.
