Wonderful photographs, just wonderful.

When were they taken? Actually, what I'm really asking is: Has spring, 2007, arrived?

I have a Forest Pansy Redbud in my from yard Leisa. Leaves emerge deep purple and gradually change to green. Mid way through it is quite spectacular.

The redbud is in my front yard. Today, the dogwoods will bloom fully given that it will be 80+ degrees. The redbuds come out just before the dogwoods.

Mark, its not the leaves that emerge purple but the flower. The leaves will come later (not much later, in fact they emerge about a week or so later and overpower the blooms. So the most beautiful time for redbuds are when the buds first appear and now (these pictures are only 3 days apart)when they bloom.

I'll do a picture of the leaves. There is only about 2 leaves on my tree now. When I took the picture this a.m. there were lots of bumble bees and two butterflies.

The leaves on a Forest Pansy come out deep purple Leisa. I have watched it happen for 9 years now so I don't think I'm making this up and neither does this nursery!:

"Clusters of tiny, rose-purple, pea-like flowers bloom profusely on the branches and mature trunks for 2-3 weeks in early spring (March-April) before the foliage emerges. Flowers tend to be darker and more purplish than other species. Heart-shaped leaves open bright reddish-purple and gradually mature to a more muted purple. " (Nature Hills Nursery)

The leaves then become green-purple.

Mark, my profound apologies. Thanks for the correction. I thought you were confused, but it was me (but hey, you didn't mention the flowers at all, so I made a reasonable leap!),

I bet it is gorgeous. My tree's leaves emerge bright green. The heart shape is lovely, and then you get those ugly seed pods.

No seed pods here. :)

" I thought you were confused, but it was me...."

"It was I" please.

Now if someone could tell FG where to place the comma (which I omitted), I would be grateful.

Fussy Grammarian

I stand corrected twice now--first on fact, now on grammar. My cheeks are burning with shame!

MarkM--Okay, I looked up this pansy redbud. I'm going to secure one to plant on my dog's (Lucy) grave. This foliage will be a nice complement to my current redbud. I thank you and ghost of Lucy thanks you. It does appear that this species has seed pods unless you have an hermaphroditic tree!

9 years. No seed pods. It must have "issues" that it is too embarrassed to discuss with its owner.

ah, the internet...

it used to be that these 'I'll show you mine; now you show me yours' exchanges were private...

or, if not private, the subject matter of such exchanges was the glossy contents of one's wallet...

no blooming 'buds here in Canada...

but, yesterday, I did see some some tundra swans resting or feeding during a migration layover.

all this I post with trembling trepidation, as my 'non sequitur' subject matter, punctuation, incomplete sentences, and all manner of other grammatical violence will surely be provocative.

ps.

I'm kidding of course.

I love reading what you have to say, Leisa; and like to read also what those, who find your blog worth reading, have to say.

this bemused observation: post after post from you about CDO's...thoughtful pieces...no comments from us readers...and then, you post a picture of pink buds of a woody shrub and evoke comments numbering in the double digits.

regards to all.

Joey, redbud discourse is so much more fun than talking about CDO's!

You'll never have to worry about my correcting your grammar (and FG notice that I used, appropriately the possessive pronoun, "my", rather than "me".
