Hatteras Bound--Deflation Investigation in the Offing

On Sunday, my husband and I are Hatteras bound. My B/SIL are very generous to invite us down. We will stay Sunday through Wednesday. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I will take my daughter's laptop.

I am printing at the moment Paul Krugman's articles on Japanese deflation. I will take those down with me. I'm sure that the salt air will incite some insights.

Naturally I will be skipping over all of the economic equations!

I guess (as has been suggested) most strikes are at 950 and 900 on the S&P

Will we stay within this range today or break it causing a wild swing??

Price volatility has been mute so far today...

Hi Leisa, It's been a long time since I've visited your blog...I see you continue the good work.

I just had to weigh in on your RM decision, which means I have to admit that you're a more principled person than I am. I've run across your comments to JJC from time to time, and you have probably seen mine (deuseswild)...so we both know you're a much more eloquent writer than me. In any event, I can't express strongly enough my contempt for the way JJC conducts himself on RM (not to mention his dreadful show). Unfortunately, I am unable to wean myself from the likes of RevShark (I have not participated in his blog), Helene, Bob Marcin, Tim Melvin (great addition to site), and Dan Fitzpatrick to name a few. But JJC...he's simply out of control with the worst type of advice possible.

I also visited Bill Cara's blog after a long absense and was surprised not to hear his current thinking but some of his reader's reaction to it. I guess it's hard for many of us to get "unstuck" in our thinking when fear is the primary emotion we're experiencing. As for me, I think Bill may be a little early on his new bull call...but we'll sure see. Interestingly, another trusted voice on the web is also suggesting that the next bull run is here though he's certainly qualifying it as a counter-trend rally in a bear market. That of course would be John Hussman, who I'm certain you read weekly. I'm not sure John has ever had as strong an opinion on where the markets go from here as he did in his mid-week comment on 10/15. Of all the people I read, I'd call John just about the clearest thinker of them all. Interesting times to say the least.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Keep up the good work and enjoy the salt air!

NG: It will be interesting to see how things open on Monday.

Glenn--it has been a while. First, lee me encourage you to post more on the Rev's blog. It is a terrific group of people. I'm also hoping that my respite will help me focus more on my homework rather than the very enjoyable act of frequenting the blog.

JJC--ugh....is all I can say. I wished I could donn blinders, but I really do not want to put a penny in his pocket.

How funny that you mentioned Hussman. I've not read him in a while, but just two days ago noticed the post that you refer to! I have modest exposure to the upside: DIG, SSO, and UPW.

Pretty lame action today...

Never like to see the market make most of its intraday gains during lunch (11.30 - 1.30)

Bulls will be hoping for better next week..

enjoy the weekend all..

This Goldman joke is pretty hilarious; thought you would have a chuckle too!

Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a donkey from a farmer for $100.00.

The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.

The next day he drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news - the donkey died."

Chuck replied, "Well, then just give me my money back, I guess."

The farmer said, "Can't do that. I went out last night and spent it already."

Chuck said, "OK then, just bring me the dead donkey."

The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?"

Chuck said, "I'm going to raffle him off."

The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead donkey!"

Chuck said, "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead."

A month later the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, "What happened with that dead donkey?"

Chuck said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $898.00."

The farmer said, "Didn't any one complain?"

Chuck said, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back."

Chuck now works for Goldman Sachs.

Leisa,

I was delinquent in offering a warm send-off to you and your husband. We hope you have a restful and most enjoyable trip...and if you would, have a blue crab for me. ;)
